4th reflective journal

27 march 2015

Microbial interactions may be parasitic, such that one organism benefits at the cost of another; mutualistic, such that both organisms benefit; or commensal, such that one organism benefits at no cost or benefit to the other.

For this week, we learn about the microbial interaction. But for this week we only discuss about the mutualistic interaction.Mutualism is define as two organism of different species exist in a relationship in which each individual benefits from the activity of the other. But in this microbial interaction, we discuss more about the relationship of the microorganism. Example like protozoan-termite relationship, zooxanthellae, sulfide-based mutualism, methane-based mutualism, and rumen ecosystem.

In the class, we also discuss about our huge  POBL event/project. We have choosen the committee members to mange the events. Besides that we also do reflection for the microbial interaction topic on Padlet.com. Here are the link for the padlet activity,  http://padlet.com/zuhainis/microbeinteract . From my understanding of the topics, i have choose the interaction of microorganism that cause bad breath. Below are the video about the bad breath bacteria :
